Recent evidence suggests that the practice of pranayama, a set of yoga breathing exercises, has positive effects on measures of clinical stress and anxiety. The results of a clinical trial with thirty healthy young adults (assessed at baseline and after 4 weeks of pranayama practices) suggest that pranayama significantly decreased states of anxiety and negative affect as well as modulated activity in brain regions involved in emotional processing.
